A hiking course is a key to Korean integration?
South and North Korea have invested $3.9 million (\420 million) in the demilitarized zone, DMZ, near the border between the two countries to jointly establish a hiking course. The move follows the abolition of 11 guard centers in 2018 and is expected to contribute to peace between the two countries. North Koreans, however, are not allowed to easily move to South. North Korean escapees are said to have offered brokers more than $12,000 (\1.29 million), but this is not an easy money for ordinary citizens.

Abundant minerals
Though North Korea suffers from poor economic development, mineral resources may help the economy. More than 200 minerals, such as iron, gold and rare metals, are possibly buried in the ground, and the total amount is estimated to reach $10 trillion (\1,080 trillion) across the entire country, according to a survey. The problem lies in inadequate mining technology, and the present mining sites are not always functioning satisfactorily. Also, private companies are banned from mining, and unfortunately citizens do not benefit from the mineral resources.
