Mango is a member of the sumac family of plants and can sometimes cause allergic reactions. Mango peel, bark and leaves contain urushiol, which is a toxin of poison ivy. People who are allergic to poison ivy will have painful rashes, such as rashes and blisters, from eating the fruit. Also, if you have severe allergies, eating mangoes can lead to breathing difficulties. It is very rare, though, for people to have allergic reactions to mango fruits.

If you feel any pain around your mouth after eating mango, you should immediately wash out your mouth with clean water. Allergies to urushiol may get worse day by day. Observe the affected area for several days. If there any signs of a serious condition, go to the hospital.

Of course, you should avoid taking large mango bites as we do with apples.
